2014년 12월 9일, 한국 서울 - 프리스케일 반도체(www.freescale.co.kr 한국 지사장 황연호)가 팹리스 반도체 기업이자 고급 HD 컨텐트 프로세싱 IC 분야의 선두 개발업체인 젠버지(Zenverge)를 인수했다.
업계 선두의 젠버지(Zenverge)의 트랜스코딩 기술은 하나의 미디어 스트림을 멀티 스트림으로 변환하여 각 스트림이 표시되는 특정 인터넷 연결 디바이스 또는 플랫폼에 따른 개별 형식을 적용해 최적화한다. 향후 지원 예정인 방식에는 고급 데이터 압축을 통해 최대 50% 대역폭 절감 효과를 얻는 동시에 탁월한 4K 해상도를 제공하는 울트라 HD(HEVC) 표준도 포함된다. 젠버지(Zenverge) 기술을 통해 HD 비디오 및 기타 복합 디지털 컨텐츠를 안전하게 공유하고 클라우드와 전세계 네트워크에 분산된 컨텐츠를 원활히 통합할 수 있다.
프리스케일 마이크로 컨트롤러 제품 그룹 총책임자인 지오프 리스(Geoff Lees) 수석 부사장은 이번 인수를 통해 프리스케일은 다양한 비디오 IoT(사물 인터넷) 애플리케이션 및 시장을 향한 컨텐츠 프로세싱, 저장 및 상호운용성 역량을 대폭 강화될 것이라고 밝혔다.
지오프 리스(Geoff Lees)는 "이번 인수로 인해 프리스케일은 인터넷 컨텐츠의 규모와 집적도가 급증하는 시점에 디스플레이 및 미디어 중심 프로세싱 역량을 더욱 확장할 수 있게 됐다” 라며 “젠버지(Zenverge)는 디지털 컨텐츠의 안전한 최적화와 통합, 저장 및 확산에 있어 확고한 선두 업체이다. 이 회사의 앞선 기술은 기존 프리스케일 유명 제품 시리즈의 향후 포트폴리오를 위한 고도로 차별화된 기능을 제공하게 되어 프리스케일이 새로운 시장에서 보다 성장할 수 있는 기회로 작용할 것이다."라고 밝혔다.
이번 계약에 따라 젠버지(Zenverge)의 주요 인력도 프리스케일에 합류했다. 하지만 자세한 계약 조건은 공개되지 않았다.
